The Public Art Across Maryland: Artwork Commissions program is the state’s Percent-for-Art program. Artwork Commissions are permanent, large-scale, publicly accessible artworks integrated into the construction or renovation of eligible State buildings. Commission budgets range from $50,000-$1,500,000. The Maryland Public Artist Roster will open in Spring 2025 and be used to select artists for upcoming commissions through 2027.

Panelist Overview:
Panelists are members of the public who assist the Maryland State Arts Council with the evaluation of public art roster applications. Maryland Public Art Roster is a vetted directory of artists interested in Artwork Commission projects in Maryland. Click here to learn more about the Public Art Roster. Panelists are selected based on their expertise in areas relevant to specific visual and public art programs, as well as their diversity of experiences and locations across the United States. This is a national call for panelists.
Qualified panelists should have experience in one or more of the following areas:
- Artist selection and procurement for public art projects
- Public art project planning & management
- Demonstrated commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion
- Producing, managing, or installing art for the built environment.
- Public Art Administrators and Curators, Artists, Architects, and Landscape Architects
- Project Management with a focus on public art/art in the built environment
Those selected to serve as panelists are expected to:
- Attend one virtual orientation to understand the panel process: Tuesday, July 15, 2025,⋅12:00 – 1:00 pm Virtual
- Respond to panelist check-ins as needed
- Evaluate assigned artist applications on their own time between 07/21/2025 - 8/15/2025
- Prepare feedback for each application based on evaluation criteria
Compensation:
Virtual Training: $50/Flat
Application Review:
- $200 (25 or fewer apps)
- $300 (26-35 apps)
- $375 (36-45 apps)
- $450 (46+ apps)
Artists applying to be included in the Artist Roster cannot serve as panelists.
